Queen's nurses approve strike notice

Nurses at Queen's Medical Center voted to authorize their union, the Hawai'i Nurses Association, to issue a 10-day strike notice as they near the Nov. 30 end of their contract.Nurses at Kaiser Permanente Hawaii took the same step on Monday.
"We understand that this is a normal process for unions," said Gail Tiwanak, a spokeswoman for Queen's, in a statement. "The Queen's Medical Center remains hopeful that we will be able to reach agreement on a contract by Nov. 30."
