Police hunting 'clown bandit'

Police yesterday asked for help in locating Christopher Kegler, 33, believed to be the "clown bandit" wanted under an arrest warrant arising from four robberies of supermarket branches of local banks.

Kegler, 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, is described as having a muscular build, a fair complexion, and short dirty blond hair and blue eyes.

Kegler is often in Honolulu, but is believed to live in the Hilo and Puna areas on the Big Island.

He is wanted in connection with robberies of the Market City Foodland branch of American Savings on Sept. 28 and Oct. 31, the Kamehameha Shopping Center Star Market branch of Bank of Hawaii, on Oct. 19 and the Bank of Hawaii branch station at Star Market Mo'ili'ili on Nov. 1.

Teen motorcyclist in critical condition

PUKALANI, Maui — A 15-year-old Makawao boy was flown to The Queen's Medical Center yesterday after his motorcycle was struck head-on by a pickup truck on Makani Road in Pukalani.

Greyson Kaehuaea was last reported in critical condition with two broken legs, a broken pelvis, a torn aorta, possible brain injury and spinal injuries.

Police said the boy's 2002 Kawasaki 220cc trail bike crossed the center line at 9:15 a.m. while rounding a curve on Makani Road. He collided with a Pukalani-bound 1998 Ford Ranger operated by an 82-year-old Pukalani man.

Police said Kaehuaea was not wearing a helmet. The other driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.


Bank robbery suspect arrested

Police have arrested a 34-year-old man in Kaka'ako on suspicion of bank robbery.

The man was taken into custody at 5:02 p.m. Monday, two hours after a robbery at Hawai'i National Bank, at 45 N. King St., was reported. The man reportedly contacted his probation officer, who notified police. The man, who was taken into custody at 300 Ala Moana, surrendered without incident.


Woman sought in welfare-fraud case

State welfare fraud investigators are trying to find a 45-year-old woman who allegedly obtained $20,000 in public assistance benefits through fraud.

Leslie Eileen Morimoto, also known as Leslie Eileen Kendall, was indicted in August for first-degree theft. Anyone with information is asked to call State Welfare Fraud Special Agent Ryan Yamasaki at 586-1240.
