Man arrested in Big Island shooting

Big Island police arrested a 55-year-old man suspected in a fatal shooting early today in Puna. The Kapoho-area incident was reported at 4 a.m.

Wahiawa burglary thwarted by police

Surveillance work by police patrol and Crime Reduction Unit officers in Wahiawa's commercial area paid off today when three people were arrested on suspicion of attempting to burglarize an auto parts store on Kilani Avenue.

Wahiawa businesses have been hit by a series of daily burglaries since August, police said. The auto store where today's arrests were made was burglarized two days ago and was also hit in August.

Police arrested a Wahiawa man, 24, and Waipahu woman, 18, at 3:55 a.m. after they attempted to cut open a lock at the auto parts store with a large bolt cutter. Police had spotted the pair "acting suspicious" in the area earlier and kept them under surveillance.

Police said both suspects were carrying crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

A third man, 30, whom police suspect was a "lookout," was also arrested for second-degree burglary.

A bolt cutter was also used in Tuesday's burglary of the auto parts store, police said.

Baby's corpse remains missing

A 34-year-old man charged with misdemeanor abuse of a corpse for allegedly burying a stillborn 8-month-old infant was arraigned today in Kaua'i District Court.

David Tucker has refused to provide police with information about where he buried the child's body.

Maria Alexander-Han, 34, gave birth late Saturday night while on a hiking trip in Kalalau Valley with Tucker. Alexander-Han was also arrested for abuse of a corpse but has not yet been charged.

Police and state land use officers conducted an unsuccessful two-day search to recover the infant's body.

Police are investigating how a 2-year-old Mililani boy, now at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children, sustained critical head injuries. The child has a depressed skull fracture and other injuries.

The injuries were reported to police Monday after the child was transferred from Wahiawa General Hospital to Kapi'olani.
