Improve your posture by getting on the ball
Yep, this posture-improving tip, courtesy of the CosmoGIRL! November issue, suggests that sitting on the ball while doing homework or anything else for an extended period forces you to keep your back straight. An Advertiser staffer tested this out while working at her computer at home and swears it works.
The exercise balls are available at local sporting-goods outlets, or consider Fit Balls, made of heavy-duty PVC plastic and available in pearl white at $24.95, $29.95 and $35.95 (not including shipping fees) for 22-, 26- and 30-inch (diameter) balls, respectively. Exercise reduces risk of fracturing a hip
Middle-age and older women can greatly reduce their risk of hip fracture by exercising regularly, according to a study out last week.
Women who walk for four or more hours a week reduce by 40 percent their risk of hip fractures compared with women who do little or no activity.
Women cut their risk in half when they walk an hour a day or jog for three hours a week, shows a study in Journal of the American Medical Association.
Those whose regular exercise is equivalent to about an hour of walking a day reduce their risk of hip fractures about the same amount as women who took hormone therapy.
