Volleyball Wahine slam Tech in tourney opener

RENO, Nev. -- Second-ranked Hawai'i swept by Louisiana Tech, 30-13, 30-19, 30-16, yesterday in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament at the Virginia Street Gym. The Rainbow Wahine (26-1) are seeded No. 1 in the tournament and the Techsters No. 8. LaTech ended its year 19-16 i its best season since 1996.

Hawai'i got 16 kills apiece from All-Americas Lily Kahumoku and Kim Willoughby.

The Rainbows play the winner of today's match between fourth-seeded San Jose State and fifth-seeded Rice in tomorrow's second round. The championship is Sunday afternoon. Hawai'i has won the last four WAC championships and its last 72 matches against WAC teams.
