Kahuku to play No. 1 St. Joseph for girls' crown

Undefeated St. Joseph will meet Kahuku tonight for the Hawai'i high school girls' volleyball title.

Top-seeded St. Joseph swept fourth-seeded Seabury Hall, 15-12, 15-1, last night in the semifinals of the Nissan Girls State Volleyball Championship at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.

In the other semifinal, third-seeded Kahuku upset second-seeded Kamehameha, 15-9, 12-15, 15-7.

St. Joseph (17-0), the Big Island Interscholastic Federation champion, received a match-high eight kills from Jazmin Pa'akaula, followed by Sarah Mason's seven and Lindsey Lee's five.

Lecca Roberts had five kills for Seabury Hall (15-1), the Maui Interscholastic League champion.

Kahuku's Monarisa Ale recorded a match-high 11 kills, and Michelle Peters chipped in nine kills and two blocks for the third-seeded Red Raiders (14-2), the Oahu Interscholastic Association champion.

Kamehameha (16-1), the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion, was led by Mounia Nihipali's eight kills.

Kamehameha will play Seabury Hall for third place today.

In consolation play:

• Pearl City 2, Hawai'i Prep 1: Chalice Kaapuni had a team-high 13 kills and six blocks as the Chargers (12-3) defeated Ka Makani, 14-16, 15-11, 15-8.

Carly Hayashikawa and Somia Quan each had 13 kills for Hawai'i Prep (13-4).

• Iolani 2, Moanalua 1: Kanoe Kamana'o put down 10 kills to lead the Raiders (15-4) over the Menehunes, 15-2, 2-15, 15-7.

Patti Hardimon had a match-high 11 kills for Moanalua (12-4), the OIA runner-up. Jackie-Lynn Sasaki led Iolani, the defending state champion, with two aces. Iolani will play Maui for fifth place today.

• Maui 2, Kealakehe 0: Edwina Pagdilao slammed a match-high seven kills as the Sabers (13-4) swept the Waveriders, 15-9, 15-4.

Kriss Thompson had a team-high three kills for Kealakehe (13-6).
