The new breed of video games

Advertiser Staff

As the "Grand Theft Auto" series is proving the generation that grew up with Space Invaders and Joust is still playing video games — and their adult tastes are becoming apparent. Here are a few hot sellers from the senior-Gen-X market.

• "Medtroid Prime": Despite it's "M" rating, this game has been marketed both to older and younger audiences. The premise — interstellar bounty hunter does search-and-destroy on alien baddies — is kid stuff, the gruesome violence is ageless.

• "BMX XXX": Proving you don't have to be a sophomore to enjoy a little sophomoric fun, "BMX XXX" promises an ample supply of "pimps, puke, bitches, ho's, strippers, constipation, cosmonauts, electrocution, monkeys, aliens" and, oh yeah, BMX biking. It's slogan is "Keep it dirty." Get it?

• "Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer": Not all of the video games popular with older players are sex-and-violence oriented. "Pro Surfer" is a big-wave version of the popular Tony Hawk's "Pro Skater" games. Built around six-time world champion surfer Kelly Slater and eight other top pros, the games features 15 real world locations and a constantly changing wave environment. It's promise: "You'll never see the same wave twice."
