ADVERTISER BOOK CLUB
An evening with Gail Tsukiyama

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu Advertiser Book Club members — who ought to be deep into our latest selection, "The Samurai's Garden," by now — are invited to meet the author, Gail Tsukiyama, at the first "real-time" event sponsored by the book club.

The event will include a talk, reading, book-signing, light refreshments and a commemorative gift.

• 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10, Atherton Performing Arts Center, Hawai'i Public Radio, 738 Kaheka St., Suite 101 (across from Daiei store).

• Free admission, reservations required; space is limited.

• Hawai'i Public Radio box office: 955-8821.

• Books will not be sold at the event, so purchase books to be signed beforehand.

If you've already sped through "The Samurai's Garden," or previously read it, check out Tsukiyama's new book, "Dreaming Water," her first novel in a contemporary setting. It's about a woman, Hana, dying of a genetic illness that causes premature aging, and the widowed mother, Cate, who is caring for her. As Hana strives to find meaning in her life and death, Cate attempts to hold on.
