Suspect burglar at hotel caught

A 28-year-old Kaka'ako man who was seen scaling balconies between the 27th and 28th floors of a Waikiki hotel early today was arrested by police on suspicion of breaking into a guest's room on the 28th floor.

Police captured the burglary suspect at 1:30 a.m. inside Room 2754 at the hotel on the 2500 block of Kalakaua Avenue. The room was registered to a guest with whom the arrested man was staying, police said.

The man stood on the balcony railing and pulled himself to the balcony above, police said.

The suspect was confronted by a 60-year-old woman returning to her 28th-floor room late last night, police said. The man fled through the front door. Property taken from the 28th-floor room was recovered at the arrest scene, police said.

Man arrested in road rage case

Police arrested a 20-year-old man yesterday for questioning about a road rage incident in which a pickup truck passenger allegedly used a tire iron to damage the front and rear windows of a car while both vehicles were in motion.

The 5:30 p.m. incident Sunday on Nimitz Highway began near South Street with an exchange of dirty looks between two people in a pickup truck and two others in a car.

The man questioned yesterday was reportedly driving the truck. He was released pending further investigation for first-degree criminal property damage. His passenger allegedly leaned out of the truck and smashed the rear window and front windshield of the car with a tire iron.

A passenger in the car suffered injuries caused by shattered glass, police said.
