THE LEFT LANE
'Ulalena D.C.-bound

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Maui's own 'Ulalena — the Cirque du Soleil-type fantasy built on Hawaiian mythological themes — will go to Washington, D.C., in December, the first time the production has traveled. The event coincides with Hawai'i coverage in the December issues of National Geographic and National Geographic Traveler.

Dec. 6 shows and a hula and craft workshop Dec. 7 are part of a National Geographic Society music and arts performance series. About 10 cast members will participate. The high-tech production with live music and eye-filling sets normally is seen at the Maui Theatre in Lahaina, and the Maui Visitors Bureau is assisting, but 'Ulalena is raising money to cover travel costs. call theater manager John Young, (808) 661-9914, to learn more.

Hoku to join Don

HOKU HO
Hoku, the singing daughter of entertainer Don Ho, will be home for Thanksgiving — and sort of singing for her supper with Daddy at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel.

Hoku will join Dad and his island cast in performances at 8:15 p.m. and again Thursday (Thanksgiving), next Sunday and next Tuesday.

Hoku just wrapped up her first movie role in "Arizona Summer," directed by Joey Travolta, and wrote, produced, and performed the tune, "Summer's On," for the film soundtrack.

For reservations, call 923-3981.
