Police today were seeking to charge a 28-year-old Kaka'ako man for allegedly breaking into a 28th-floor Waikiki hotel room and stealing property from a tourist early yesterday morning. According to police, the man is a suspect in "over half the burglaries in Waikiki last month," which could lead to additional charges.

Findings of escape probe forwarded

Findings from a police investigation into the Aug. 31 escape of 10 girls from the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility have been forwarded to prosecutors.

With the arrest of a 16-year-old girl in Wai'anae a week ago, nine of the 10 escapees have been captured. The escapee still at large also is 16 years old.

The girls allegedly were helped in the escape by a 31-year-old man who was hired by Child and Family Service as a residential specialist at the facility. The man, who has an arrest record but no convictions, worked at the facility for 1› weeks but quit his job the day after the escape.

The man was released pending further investigation after being questioned by police in September.

Two other men, ages 23 and 19, were arrested in September on suspicion of helping the escapees by giving them a ride. Both men were released pending further investigation.

Besides escape, the girls may be charged with the theft of a van.
