SATURDAY SCOOPS
Be beach-bound this weekend

Advertiser Staff

To shop or not to shop? Here it is, the biggest shopping weekend of the year, and that's why the malls, craft fairs and other places to buy stuff are jam-packed.

Need a break? Head for the city's Sunset on the Beach food-entertainment-film events happening today and tomorrow from 4 p.m. at Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki.

Entertainment today is by Coconut Joe and a diverse group from the Polynesian Cultural Center; B.E.T. and Hot Rain will be featured tomorrow.

Tonight's film is the 1985 blockbuster "Back to the Future," starring Michael J. Fox; tomorrow's is "Men in Black II," starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, the sequel to the

giant sci-fi comedy hit (the DVD, by the way, has just been released). Each film will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the 30-foot screen.

And don't forget the food. Among the offerings will be barbecue baby back ribs with rice, cole slaw and beans from Dixie Grill; a laulau plate with rice, lomi salmon and haupia from Moani's Country Kitchen; and a Vietnamese chicken sandwich on croissant or spring rolls from Ba-Le French Sandwich and Restaurant.

Did we mention this would be a break from shopping? Well, who knows, you might just find the right gifts at the Hawaii Handcrafters and Artists Alliance craft fair that'll be happening, too. Go for it!

Admission to "Sunset" is free. 523-2489.
