Jews mark Hanukkah, Festival of Lights

Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over a Syrian invasion. Here is a list of related events on O'ahu:

PUBLIC MENORAH LIGHTING, sponsored by Chabad of Hawaii, 6 p.m. tomorrow, Waikiki Gateway Park, junction of Kuhio and Kalakaua avenues; lighting of Hawai'i's largest menorah; celebration party to follow in the second-floor ballroom of the Waikiki Terrace Hotel, 2045 Kalakaua Ave., across from the park; live Jewish music, prizes, buffet, hot latkes, dreidels; $18 ($12 children age 2-12); 735-8161.

HANUKKAH ISRAELI DANCE PARTY, 1-4 p.m. tomorrow, Ala Wai Golf Ballroom, off Kapahulu Avenue, 'ewa of Kapahulu Public Library; potluck lunch; $4. 373-2561.

TEMPLE EMANU-EL HANUKKAH PARTY: candlelighting 5:30 p.m., Kabbalat Shabbat service 6 p.m., Hanukkah play 6:30 p.m., dinner and latkes 6:45 p.m. Friday, 2550 Pali Highway; $15 ($10 for members, $7 for members age 13 and under; $10 for nonmembers age 13 and under). 595-7521.
