UH's Bass likely out for Saturday game

Advertiser Staff

University of Hawai'i running back Mike Bass has a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Bass said an magnetic resonance imaging showed the partial tear. An MRI uses magnetic fields to create an image of the body's interior.

UH coach June Jones said he does not expect Bass, who is the Warriors' leading rusher this season, to play in Saturday's game at Boise State.

But after this morning's practice, Bass said he has not ruled out playing. He said he will try to practice tomorrow. The Warriors depart by charter flight Thursday afternoon. Jones' rule is that a player must practice at least two days before a game in order to start.

Jones said if Bass cannot play, Thero Mitchell, John West or Michael Brewster will share the lone running back job UH's run-and-shoot offense. Mitchell and West worked with the first-team offense during this morning's practice.
