Ikaika Kahoano wants to be an island draw

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

HERE 'N' THERE: Ikaika Kahoano, the "Making the Band" drop out from Hawai'i, has been home contemplating his show-biz options. He toured with his group, LMNT (as in "element"), and is perusing movie scripts and TV opportunities. "He wants to look at new avenues and approaches to bring audiences and visitors to Hawai'i," says his dad, Kimo Kahoano. ...

Singer Ann McCormack Livermore and actor son Don Stroud will be visiting Hawai'i next week, with mixed emotions. It's been a trying time for Livermore, whose daughter, Joan Coogan, died May 31; Livermore's husband Paul, died May 2. A private memorial service will be held Oct. 10 aboard the Ke Po Kai, the same catamaran that Stroud crewed in his beach-boy days. Stroud's wife Teri has family here, too, which operates a business, the Natural Hawaiian clothing shop at the International Market Place, which they're all planning to visit, so the journey home will have some bright moments. Livermore, who still does occasional shows in Las Vegas, hooked up with Don Ho when he was performing in the gambling capital, and shared a song or two. So she'll visit Ho at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel to catch up on the island buzz. ...

Sight 'em: Daredevil Robbie Knievel dined at Maui's Pacific 'O the other night sans shenanigans — he arrived on foot, didn't leap over cars or trucks. ...

RANDOM NOTES: It was an emotional launching when the late Moe Keale's portrait was formally unveiled in a Sheraton Waikiki homage to its poolside entertainers. His wife, Carol, spoke; his son, Nalani, chanted and danced. Music was by Keale's longtime crew, Analu Aina, Mel Amina and Kalani Kupau. Keale's badge from his "Hawaii Five-O" era is among the memorabilia on display in the hotel's Music Hall of Fame, which also honors Kanilau, Ku'uipo Kumukahi and kumu hula Karla Akiona. Everyone sang Keale's "Aloha Is," a chicken-skin moment ...

TUBE TALK: It's not often that brothers are on TV opposite each other the same night. When ESPN's Larry Beil was broadcasting the high school doubleheader on KGMB-9 (his former island home) recently, brother Drake was hosting the new show "UH This Week" on KHNL-8. "I don't think I was a ratings threat to Larry, but it was fun being on at the same time," said Drake, who can be seen at 5 p.m. every Saturday. The show updates UH sports, offers contests and logo wear. ...

Scott Swan, former KITV-4 sports and news anchor, is now anchoring the 5:30 and 10 p.m. Eyewitness News on WTHR in Indianapolis. ...

Vince Gerasole, who used to be at KHNL-8 with wife Heidi Umbhau, is a reporter at WBBM in Chicago, where he used to anchor the 4:30 p.m. news. ...
