Motorcycle rider dies in collision

A 46-year-old man was killed early yesterday after his motorcycle collided with a car in Pearl City.

The man was riding a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle at 6:22 a.m. when it struck a 2000 Dodge Intrepid attempting to make a left turn from Moanalua Road onto Ho'olaulea Street, police said.

The man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, police said.

The 21-year-old man driving the car and a 22-year-old man riding with him were not hurt.

Police say speed may have contributed to the crash, but they believe alcohol or drugs were not a factor. It was the 48th traffic fatality on O'ahu this year, compared with 59 at the same time last year.
