Nichols, Amoy will leave Waialae C.C.

Head golf professional Greg Nichols and head golf superintendent Jason Amoy resigned at the Waialae Country Club, site of the PGA Tour's Sony Open, to take new positions elsewhere.

Nichols, who has been at Waialae since 1978 and its head professional for the past 16 years, will join the Ko Olina Golf Club as its director of golf operations and general manager when he leaves his present position at the end of November.

Amoy, Waialae's superintendent the past three years, will take over at the Mid-Pacific Country Club this month for Bob Tokigawa, who will be retiring after being its head superintendent for 21 years.

"I've been offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at Ko Olina. It's effective when I leave here (Waialae). I'll be staying until the end of November to make sure that everything's set for the Sony Open," Nichols said. "With so many memories after all these years, leaving Waialae is very emotional."

"Mid-Pac as a course and as a country club fits my personality well," Amoy said about his move. "He (Tokigawa) must have done something right to be there 21 years. I hope to do as well."

A 1992 University of Hawai'i graduate, Amoy was the head superintendent at Hickam's Mamala Bay Course before going to the Waialae Country Club.
