Inconsistent waves put pro surf meet on hold

Advertiser Staff

The third round of surfing in the Roxy Pro France women's World Championship Tournament was postponed yesterday because of inconsistent conditions at Hossegor, France.

High tide conditions made for inconsistent sets of waves at the inaugural $60,000 event.

Among the 16 women who have advanced to the third round are Hawai'i's Keala Kennelly, Megan Abubo and Rochelle Ballard.

The final four first-round heats of the men's Quiksilver Pro France were completed.

Hawai'i's Shane Dorian is scheduled to compete in the second round. Two other Hawai'i surfers, Andy Irons and Kalani Robb, have advanced to the third round.

SAILING

Kane'ohe competing: University of Hawai'i All-American Molly O'Bryan will skipper a crew in the Adam's Cup women's keelboat nationals, beginning tomorrow at San Francisco Yacht Club. The regatta ends Wednesday.

The U.S. Sailing event uses J-24s with four-woman crews. O'Bryan's crew is Annelise Moore, a 2002 Cal graduate, Bank of Hawaii Vice President Marcy Fleming and Honolulu police officer Genie Simeona.

The boat is representing Area H-West, Kane'ohe Yacht Club and the Hawai'i Women's Yacht Racing Association.

Moore and O'Bryan will sail 470's in California following the Adams Cup.
