MTV's Kurt Loder speaks Wednesday

Kurt Loder, host of MTV News' "The Week in Rock" and "1515," will discuss the world's largest music video channel and the youth marketplace at a Hawai'i Advertising Federation luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Hawai'i Prince Hotel's Mauna Kea Ballroom.

Loder also has hosted numerous MTV specials and co-authored "I, Tina," with singer Tina Turner, which was the source for the movie, "What's Love Got To Do With It."

Tickets: $40 for HAF members, Ad 2 and students; $50 for others.

Ocean Fest set at Gateway Park

A Kaka'ako Ocean Fest, benefitting the Children's Discovery Center, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Kaka'ako Gateway Park.

Family festivities will unfold under the sun.

Auntie Genoa Keawe will participate in a bus tour of Kaka'ako; other events include a cooking demonstration by Chef Bill Bruhl of Ryan's Bar & Grill, a farmer's market, a land surfing lesson from the Hans Hedemann Surfing School and food provided by Tsukenjo's, Papa John's Pizza, Meadow Gold Dairies, Coca-Cola and more.

'Stand and Deliver' on Punahou stage

Keaka Punahou will present the inspirational play, "Stand and Deliver," at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday as well as Oct. 11 and 12 at Dillingham Hall, on the school campus.

Paul D. Palmore is directing the compelling true-life drama about Jaime Escalante, an East Los Angeles teacher, who overcomes obstacles and odds in turning inner city youths into whiz kids.

Tickets: $6 for adults, $3 for students; available at the door an hour before curtain.

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kai'ulani festival honors namesake

Princess Victoria Kai'ulani, for whom the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel is named, will be honored in "Hana Ho'ohiwahiwa 'O Kai'iulani," from Oct. 13 through 19 at the hotel.

Events will include a noncompetitive hula festival in the 'Ainahau Ballroom, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 19, with keiki 5 through 12 participating from O'ahu halau.

Other activities include hula lessons, lei making, lauhala weaving, taro demonstrations and 'ukulele lessons.
