Fatima statue to tour Islands

A statue of Our Lady of Fatima is touring the Islands this month, sponsored by the Honolulu-based St. Michael Center for the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The 24 visits to Hawai'i parishes commemorate the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima on Oct. 13, which will be celebrated with a special 1:30 p.m. Mass at St. Patrick Church in Honolulu.

The historical statue depicts the 1917 Marian apparition that appeared in Fatima, Portugal. It was sculpted by Jose Thedim in 1947.

Parish visits will include a combination of Mass, a presentation on Our Lady of Fatima, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and recitation of the rosary.

Group to conduct Peace Prayer

The Hawai'i Conference of Religions for Peace, a newly incorporated nonprofit organization, is holding a Peace Prayer, a two-hour event scheduled for 4 p.m. Oct. 20 at Neal Blaisdell Park on Kamehameha Highway.

Domestic violence topic of workshop

A domestic violence workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Christopher's Church, 93 N. Kainalu Drive in Kailua. To register, call 262-8176.

Topics include how to recognize domestic violence, how the Bible has been used against women, what is helpful and what isn't, and community resources. Ana Maring, crisis counselor at Pu'uhonua — The Domestic Violence Drop-In Center, and the Rev. Al Miles, who works for Pacific Health Ministry, will speak.

Lutheran Church presents concert

Lutheran Church of Honolulu is presenting a "Baroque Splendor" concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the church, 1730 Punahou St. Money raised will benefit Save the Foodbasket, a nonprofit agency whose mission is to assist people and families living with HIV/AIDS in meeting their nutritional needs. Save the Foodbasket provides a food pantry, nutritional counseling, home delivery and a bi-monthly luncheon for its clients.
