11 groups receive grants for homeless

The city's Emergency Shelter Program will release more than $800,000 in grants to 11 organizations that assist the homeless, in an example of how the government and nonprofit groups can partner, Mayor Jeremy Harris said.
The federally financed program is used to help homeless shelters around O'ahu by providing support services for a cross-section of the homeless population. Among the groups receiving money are:
Alternative Structures International, $40,000 for its transitional shelter.
Angel Network Charities, $50,000 for emergency rent and at-risk homeless people and families.
Catholic Charities Community and Immigrant Services, $50,000 for its transitional shelter.
Child & Family Services, $35,800 for its domestic violence shelters and transitional apartments.
Hale Kipa Inc., $65,000 for transitional living for homeless youths.
Homeless Solutions Inc., $67,000 for its transitional shelter for families.
Institute for Human Services, $190,000 for its men's emergency shelter.
Kalihi-Palama Health Center, $70,000 for its health clinic and IHS men's shelter.
Mental Health Kokua, $182,273 for its program.
Salvation Army Family Services office, $45,107 for its emergency rent and budgeting classes for at-risk homeless individuals and families.
Wai'anae Community Outreach, $40,000 for its comprehensive case management services.
