U.S. youth league expands to Hawai'i

Advertiser Staff

New youth volleyball programs will be established in Hawai'i as part of U.S. Youth Volleyball League expansion, league officials announced yesterday.

Programs will be set up on O'ahu, Maui and Kaua'i, with plans to add the Big Island, Moloka'i and Lana'i within a year.

Programs are tentatively scheduled to begin in Spring 2003. The six- to eight-week program format includes basic skills instruction with the overall philosophy of "Every Child Plays."

The league incorporates a national teaching method designed to accommodate younger players and provides clinics to help train parent volunteer coaches.

The league is recognized as the largest youth volleyball organization in the United States, and is a fully sanctioned member of USA Volleyball, the national governing body of the sport.
