Suspect arrested in stabbing of 2 at Kalihi home

A man and woman, both 19 years old, were stabbed yesterday by a man who forced his way into a Kahanu Street residence in Kalihi shortly before 2 p.m.

Police said a 19-year-old man forced his way into the home and began to stab the other man.

The woman attempted to intervene, but was also stabbed, police said.

A patrol officer in the area heard the woman screaming for help and arrived at the home as the assault continued.

The officer was able to separate the parties and arrested the man.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and first-degree burglary.

Police recovered a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the stabbing.

Police said the man who was arrested was the woman's boyfriend and is a Kalihi resident.

The man who was stabbed had a 6-inch stab wound in the chest.The woman has a cut to her forearm.

The suspect is being held in a police cellblock pending further investigation.
