A man and a woman were seriously injured when they were stabbed by a man who broke into their Kalihi home yesterday.

The attack occurred at about 1:50 p.m. at a home on Kahanu Street. Police said the 19-year-old man forced his way into the home and began to stab the other man, also 19.

The woman, 19, attempted to intervene, but was also stabbed, police said. A patrol officer in the area heard the woman screaming for help and arrived at the home as the assault continued.

The officer was able to separate the parties and arrest the man. Police recovered a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the stabbing.

Police said the man who was arrested was the woman's boyfriend.

The man who was stabbed was described by police as being in critical condition, suffering from a six-inch stab wound in the chest. The woman was in guarded condition with a cut to her forearm.

Both victims were taken to The Queen's Medical Center, but a hospital spokesman last night declined to release their condition.

The suspect, a Kalihi resident, was booked on attempted murder and burglary counts. He was being held in a police cellblock last night pending further investigation.
