FASHION TRENDS
Crinkle cotton shirt, low-rise jeans catch eye

By Paula Rath

University of Hawai'i senior Grant Nakashima likes the shirt and jeans he found in Europe.

A group of University of Hawai'i-Manoa fashion students traveled to London and Paris this year to learn more about the industry, and shopping was a major part of the experience. Here's what one student found and how he's adapting it to his island style.

Senior Grant Nakashima of Makiki is majoring in merchandising.

His personal style combines the latest trends with favorite pieces. Fit is foremost for Grant.

His European finds: a button-down crinkle cotton shirt and Diesel jeans.

Q. Where did you find them?

A. Both are from Scot in Paris.

Q. Why did you choose these pieces?

A. "It's hard to find jeans for men that are made to be low-rise. I also like the tapered leg and dark dirty denim with blue and yellow undertones. I like the texture of the shirt with its wrinkled look."

Q. Where did you first see the trend?

A. In Paris.

Q. What are you wearing it with now that you're home?

A. "I wear the jeans everywhere, with T-shirts and other black tops. The shirt is more for going out somewhere dressier and trendier, like the W."

Q. What's a no-no?

A. "It would be hard to spoil the look of the jeans — you can do anything with them. The shirt is pretty basic, too. You can wear it tucked in or out."
