A 26-year-old man was shot in the face yesterday and critically wounded.

Police said the Wahiawa resident, suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of his face, was brought to the Waialua fire station by another man shortly after 2 p.m.

A fire official said a bullet that appeared to be from a small-caliber pistol had entered just below the mouth.

The victim was conscious and his vital signs were good, the official said. He was flown by Army helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center, where police said he was in critical condition.

Police said they were unable to obtain much information from the victim, but believe he may have been shot near Kukea Circle in Waialua.
