Scholar will speak on Tibet

Keith Dowman, a scholar who has written and translated books on Tibetan Buddhism, will be giving a talk and seminar/retreat next month.

Dowman, who lives in Kathmandu, Nepal, will discuss "The Spiritual Life of Tibet." He has lived as a genyen (lay practitioner ordained and keeping vows) for 25 years. His talk at 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Honpa Hongwanji Annex Temple, 1727 Pali Highway, will discuss Tibetan Tantric Buddhism, with an introduction to Mahamudra and Dzogchen.

A seminar will be conducted 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 2-3, discussing Lama and Dakini, male and female principles that lie at the heart of Vajrayana practice and Dzogchen, at Kuakini Medical Center, 347 N. Kuakini St., Parking Building, Room 5; $35 each day.

Youth for Christ planning event

The Hawaii Youth for Christ is planning an evening worship and entertainment event for 7 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Farrington High School auditorium.

"Fusion 2002" is for high school and middle school students and will feature the music of Sonicflood, as well as a talk by Wayne Cordeiro, pastor of New Hope Christian Fellowship.
