Senate OKs Mink Title IX resolution

The U.S. Senate yesterday adopted a resolution to cite Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 as the "Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act," in honor of Hawai'i's late congresswoman.

Hawai'i Senators Daniel Inouye and Daniel Akaka and Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts were among 15 senators who sponsored the resolution.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the resolution earlier this week. The Senate action clears the resolution for the president's signature.

This is the second annual INS fair sponsored by the Honolulu Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce and will be on the center's first floor, near the Jose Rizal statue.

INS is advertising about 30 positions on O'ahu among the more than 5,000 employees being sought nationwide, said Eric Barsalan of the Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce. The posts include border patrol agents and immigration inspectors; select positions on the Mainland come with a $5,000 hiring bonus, Barsalan said.

Application deadline for the positions is Nov. 8. The Honolulu Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce is an organization dedicated to helping young adults establish successful careers as well as developing future leaders within the community.
