• Several appointments have been made at Honolulu eateries:

  • LYLE MATSUOKA has been named general manager of Auntie Pasto's at South Beretania and Pensacola streets. Matsuoka joined the restaurant in 1999. He has also worked with the 'Alana Hotel, Waikiki, banquet department; and served as manager at Furusato and L'Uraku restaurants.
  • JEAN-PIERRE MAHARIBATCHA, former chef de cuisine at the Halekulani hotel's Orchids restaurant, has been named executive chef of Cascada restaurant in the Royal Garden at Waikiki hotel. The 20-year culinary industry veteran has also worked at Ritz-Carlton hotels in Georgia, California and Florida.
  • Two culinary veterans of Waialae Country Club and Acqua, have been named to positions at the new Meritage restaurant in Restaurant Row. Named pastry chef is 10-year industry veteran ASHLEY NAKANO, most recently assistant pastry chef at Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island, and before that, Michel's restaurant. LESTER OMURO, most recently lead cook at Waialae Country Club, has joined Meritage's culinary team as sous chef. The 22-year industry veteran has also worked at Jaron's in Kailua, Scott's Seafood and Don Ho's Island Grill.

RON WATANABE has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the International Society of Hospitality Consultants. Watanabe specializes in hotel brokerage consultation.

• Several appointments and promotions have been announced by St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawai'i:

  • RENEE SHIMABUKURO has joined the organization as corporate compliance officer, overseeing potential areas of healthcare fraud, abuse and administrative errors, and responsible for a variety of business and clinical practices and ethical standards. She was previously privacy officer, and director of health information management and medical staff services for Castle Medical Center.
  • COLLEEN KOJIMA has been promoted from executive director of business development and materials management to senior vice president of program development. She will oversee clinical program development, the hospitalist program (physicians specializing in hospital in-patient care), physician projects and physician relations.
  • CATHERINE TANAKA, formerly assistant administrator, was promoted to senior vice president of nursing services. She will oversee emergency and surgical services, and critical care for the St. Francis Medical Center campuses in Liliha and 'Ewa.
  • MICHAEL WARREN, also previously an assistant administrator, was promoted to senior vice president of Community Health Services, overseeing St. Francis Hospice, Home Care Services, Health Services for Senior Citizens and Mobile Care programs.
  • RONALD LEE, most recently vice president of human resources and property development, was promoted to senior vice president of human resources.
  • JAY PLISCO, former director of materials management, has been named vice president of logistics and support services, overseeing property development, facility and environmental services, safety and security and biomedical engineering.

• Several appointments have been announced for the Ko Olina resort community:

  • CHAD JENSEN, formerly a director with the Marriott Vacation Club international corporate office in Florida, has been named general manager for Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club, a 28-acre oceanfront property, scheduled to open in early 2003 adjacent to the JW Marriott 'Ihilani Resort and Spa. The 10-year Marriott veteran has also held executive positions at the Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort and Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
  • Also named at the resort, is GREGG GRIGITIS, new project director of sales.
  • GREGORY A. NICHOLS, a veteran professional at Waialae Country Club, has been named director of golf operations, and general manager of the Ko Olina Golf Club at Ko Olina Resort and Marina, effective January 2003. Nichols began his career in Hawai'i at the Honolulu International Country Club.
