Carpenters union backs Hirono

Advertiser Staff

The 5,400-member Hawai'i Carpenters Union's political action committee yesterday endorsed the Democratic gubernatorial team of Mazie Hirono and Matt Matsunaga for the state's top offices.

With about 30 union members holding new blue-and-green "Hirono for Governor" signs behind him, Ronald Tekata, financial secretary and business representative for the carpenters, said the Democrats would support working families.

"(Mazie) is committed to the state's construction industry and recognizes that it is currently driving the revival of our local economy," Tekata said. "Mazie is all about positive change, and there's no questioning her honesty and integrity."

Tekata said members would be canvassing and waving signs to get people to vote Nov. 5.
