2 construction unions back Hirono for governor

Advertiser Staff

Two of the state's largest construction industry unions, Hawai'i Operating Engineers Local 3 and the Laborers International Union of North America Local 386, endorsed Democrat Mazie Hirono for governor yesterday.

The unions have more than 5,500 members who operate and support heavy equipment at construction projects. Harold K. Lewis, financial secretary for Local 3, said the members will actively promote the Democratic ticket by operating phone banks, waving signs and provide other support to help get Hirono and running mate Matt Matsunaga elected.

"Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono has consistently supported the working families of Hawai'i," Lewis said. "She and Matt Matsunaga listen instead of just talking, and they act instead of just promising."
