81-year-old man beaten, robbed

An 81-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was beaten and robbed yesterday afternoon at Pearl Harbor.

Police said he was about to back his car out of a stall in the Pearl Harbor Commissary parking lot when a younger man walked up to his car at about 3:30 p.m.

The younger man showed the elderly driver a black handgun and demanded money, police said.

When the driver refused, the robber punched him in the face, police said.

The victim fell to the passenger side of the car and the robber reached in and grabbed his wallet, police said.

The victim managed to drive to his Foster Village home and call police. He suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to Tripler Army Medical Center, where he was in stable condition last night.
