Kahumoku WAC player of week

Advertiser Staff

Junior All-American Lily Kahumoku was named the Western Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week after leading the University of Hawai'i to a sweep of its first roadtrip of the season.

Kahumoku hit .382 for the week as the unbeaten Rainbow Wahine mowed down Texas-El Paso and Southern Methodist.

She averaged six kills per game and 4.17 digs for the trip. Kahumoku had 25 kills and nine digs in the three-game sweep of UTEP and came up three blocks short of a triple-double.

The Wahine remain No. 2 in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll for a sixth consecutive week.

The 15-0 Rainbow Wahine trail only Southern California (16-0) in voting by a panel of AVCA coaches. UH received six first-place votes to the Trojans' 59.

Notre Dame, tonight and tomorrow's UH opponent at the Stan Sheriff Center, received points but did not crack the Top 25.
