• The University of Hawai'i's KIMBERLEE S. KIHLENG has been named executive director of the Hawaiian Mission Children's Society and Mission Houses Museum. She has taught anthropology, Pacific Studies, and Women/Gender Studies at the University of Hawai'i and the University of Guam, and served as the first historic preservation officer for the Federated States of Micronesia. She was most recently UH John A. Burns School of Medicine research administrator for the Hawaii Outcomes Institute, working with Native Hawaiian community organizations and other Pacific Islanders on public health issues.

GINGER SANDELL, most recently regional financial officer with Hawai'i Health Systems Corp.'s Kona Community Hospital, has been named chief financial officer of the Big Island's Hawai'i Preparatory Academy. The certified public accountant will administer all school business activities, including accounting, maintenance, health services, human resources and security. Sandell also has served as fiscal officer and business manager for the Family Crisis Shelter in Hilo.

JOHN ALVES, publisher of Honolulu Magazine, has been named vice president/group publisher of parent company PacificBasin Communications, continuing to serve as the magazine's publisher, with oversight also of the Honolulu-based media company's other publications: Hawai'i Business, Hawai'i Home & Remodeling, and the Ala Moana Holiday Gift Book. Alves joined PacificBasin with Honolulu Magazine's acquisition from Honolulu Publishing Co. Ltd., where he was publisher of the magazine and vice president of its parent company.

SCOTT SCHUMAKER, former Honolulu Magazine advertising director and account executive, named the magazine's associate publisher.

TERRY ROLLMAN, new associate publisher of Hawai'i Home & Remodeling, was previously director of communications for an Austin, Texas, law firm, former account supervisor with McNeil Wilson Communications; vice president of Pinnacle Communications and assistant director of public relations for Hilton Hotels in Hawai'i.

KRIS TANAHARA has been promoted by Stryker Weiner and Yokota Public Relations Inc. to account supervisor of the corporate and public affairs division. Previously senior account executive, Tanahara will oversee the division, accounts of which include Home Depot, AIG Hawai'i Insurance Co, Campbell Estate, AT&T Hawai'i, Hawai'i Dental Service and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Hired as senior account executive in the division is KYLE CHOCK, former senior adviser for the office of City Councilman Jon Yoshimura, and executive director for the St. Louis Education Foundation.

DR. SAMUEL ISHIMURA, longtime director of The Queen's Medical Center dental residency program, has been named new director of dental practices for Hawai'i Dental Service (HDS). He will serve as HDS' primary liaison with provider dentists, as well as direct professional activity for several areas of HDS, including "quality of care" reviews and clinical compliance issues. He will also supervise the managers of the Professional Relations and Dental Consulting departments.

JONATHAN Y.S. KWON has been named assistant vice president of Coldwell Banker Commercial Pacific Properties, responsible for leasing and sales of all areas of commercial real estate, including industrial, retail and office properties. Most recently, Kwon was an associate with Chaney, Brooks & Co., specializing in industrial real estate sales and leasing.

• After an eight-year stint as program director, morning show host, and vice president of programming, at radio stations in Anchorage, Alaska, JJ MICHAELS has returned to "heritage rock" station KPOI as program director. Michaels was program director and morning show host at KPOI in 1992-93.

• Bank of Hawai'i has named bank vice president LINDA LEWIS to the newly created position of community development officer. She will serve as adviser to the bank's nonprofit clients, coordinating financial need and bank services, including community development loans and deposits. Lewis, who joined the bank in 1994, was previously Community Reinvestment Act administrator and commercial loan officer.
