The Aston hotel chain stuck its tongue firmly in its cheek in designing Tiki's Grill & Bar, the retro South Pacific eatery on the second floor of the newly remodeled Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel at Kalakaua and Paoakalani avenues. The spacious spot, with palm wood floors, vintage art, and a great view of Waikiki Beach, opens formally this week with several celebrations, including a benefit 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday for the Waikiki Community Center.

Tickets are $20 for the party, which will feature an appearance by Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, The Lilikoi Boys, the Kuhio Beach Gang with Steve Mai'i and other Hoku Awards winners. Valet parking is free just that one night and drinks are hosted, too. Tickets: 923-1802, or at the door.

Curve consultants

Haven't changed your bra size since high school? This may not be something to be proud of.

Every woman should be fitted by a professional for a bra every year, especially after a major life change such as having a baby, weight gain or loss of more than 10 pounds, menopause, or taking on a new exercise regimen. Statistics indicate, however, that nationally 70to 85 percent of women wear the wrong size bra.

Bali, a manufacturer of bras and shape wear, has a goal of properly fitting 100,000 women for bras by next summer. The firm is bringing bra-fitting consultants to Honolulu from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Macy's Ala Moana and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at Macy's Pearlridge.

Pearls of potential

Mary Olsen Kelly, co-owner with husband Don of the Black Pearl Gallery stores in Honolulu and Maui, has spent 13 years scouting, selecting and selling pearls.

Concurrently, she was active in the human potential movement as a founder of Inside Edge, a West Coast inspirational speaking organization. Now she has combined her two passions to write the book "Path of the Pearl: Discover Your Treasures Within."

In it, she uses the pearl as a metaphor for personal growth, presenting the criteria used for grading pearls as a means by which women can assess their own life journeys. The book is available at Black Pearl Gallery stores and Borders.
