Global meeting on e-commerce

The Department of Business, Economic Development & Tourism, with the Asian Productivity Organization, is holding a study meeting on "E-Commerce: Opportunities and Applications" scheduled for Oct. 28 to Nov. 1.

"This study meeting presents an opportunity for Hawai'i companies to learn about the technology development needs of countries in the Asia-Pacific region," said DBEDT Director Seiji Naya.

Sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Ala Moana Hotel's Carnation Room.

Countries represented will include Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Fiji, India, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. Delegates will be representing government organizations, private industry and academic institutions.

Energy is topic of conference

Hawaiian Electric Co. holds its biennial Electro-Technology Exposition & Conference tomorrow and Thursday at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel, focusing on energy for business.

Forty energy-related exhibitors will be featured, as well as 30 speakers from organizations including the U.S. Department of Energy, University of Hawai'i, General Electric and the Electric Power Research Institute. Workshop topics include Hawai'i's energy future and the latest developments in electro-technology.

Keynote speaker tomorrow is Karl E. Stahlkopf, Hawaiian Electric's senior vice president of energy solutions and chief technology officer.

China technology to be featured

The fifth annual China Tech 2003 conference, "China Communications Defines New Global Standards," is scheduled for Honolulu Jan. 18-19.

The conference will focus on recent developments in network communications, information technology and converging Internet markets. Issues related to China's regulatory policies, business laws, sales and marketing, joint ventures and technology trade also will be discussed.
