Police suspect infant was beaten

Police have opened an assault case after a 1-month-old boy was brought to Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children with serious injuries.

The Salt Lake boy was admitted to the hospital early yesterday morning, police said. Doctors said the boy suffered multiple rib fractures, a fractured skull and internal abdominal bleeding, police said.

The boy was confined in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit last night. His condition was not available.

Police identified a suspect, but had made no arrest as of last night.


Examiner identifies drowning victims

A woman who drowned off Mokule'ia Beach on Sunday has been identified as Francine Perry, 52.

Police said Perry, a regular camper at Mokule'ia Beach, was unable to make it back to shore while swimming in rough surf. Her body was recovered at 10:47 a.m.

Also yesterday, the medical examiner's office identified the 48-year-old man whose body was found in high surf off Kea'au Beach Park in Makaha on Saturday as Sun Woong Kwon of Salt Lake.


Waipahu girl hit by pickup dies

A 9-year-old Waipahu girl who was hit by a pickup truck on Saturday night at the intersection of Pupukahi Street and Farrington Highway died Sunday night at The Queen's Medical Center.

The medical examiner's office identified the girl yesterday as Christina Milne. She was pronounced dead at 11:51 p.m.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said Milne was hit by a 1998 Toyota Tacoma pickup turning left onto Farrington Highway from Pupukahi.

The 64-year-old driver told police the girl ran in front of his truck. Police said the color of the girl's clothing and street lighting might be factors.

Milne's death is O'ahu's 54th traffic fatality of the year and the seventh this month.


Autopsy awaited in death on boat

An 18-year-old who died after losing consciousness aboard a fishing boat on Saturday has been identified as Makana C. Dalde of Mililani, the city medical examiner said yesterday.

Dalde and his father were in a fishing tournament off Kalaeloa on Saturday when his father found him unconscious in a cabin, the Coast Guard said.

Dalde's father said he suspected carbon monoxide from the boat's exhaust, the Coast Guard said. Autopsy results are expected today.

A Coast Guard helicopter flew to the victim's boat, three miles offshore, and took him to Kuakini Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.


Robber linked to previous offense

The man who robbed Bank of Hawai'i's Kamehameha Shopping Center branch inside Star Market on Saturday is a repeat offender, police say.

He is described as a muscular young blonde with a goatee, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. Police said he also robbed American Savings Bank's Market City Foodland branch on a Saturday, Sept. 28.
