Kapolei center opening Nov. 14

The opening of the Marketplace at Kapolei on Nov. 14 will bring in 27 more businesses to the area's retail sector.

The $10 million, 65,000-square-foot shopping center, located next to Kapolei Shopping Center, will feature gift shops, snack shops and restaurants.

Four of the 27 stores, including the mall's anchor, Blockbuster, are already open.

Board on recess this month

The Ala Moana/Kaka'ako Neighborhood Board is on recess this month and will not meet at its regularly designated date today.

The board will meet next at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 at Makiki Christian Church, 829 Pensacola St.


NEIGHBOR ISLANDS

Motorists asked to avoid road

POHAKULOA, Hawai'i — Motorists are advised to avoid crossing the Big Island on Saddle Road if possible while the Army conducts artillery exercises today through Saturday.

Those who must use the route are urged to stay in their cars between the 30- and 33-mile markers, the area closest to the live firing training.

The 25th Infantry Division routinely conducts exercises at the Pohakuloa Training Area, in the middle of the island.

Windward forum to be at mall

Candidates for Windward state House of Representatives and Senate will field questions at a forum from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Windward Mall Center Court in Kane'ohe.

Candidates for House seats in Districts 46 (North Shore, Wahiawa), 47 (Kahalu'u, La'ie), 48 (Kane'ohe), 49 (Kane'ohe, Enchanted Lake), 50 (Kailua, Mokapu) and 51 (Waimanalo, Lanikai); and Senate races in Districts 23 (Kahuku, Kane'ohe), 24 (Kane'ohe, Kailua) and 25 (Kailua, Portlock) have been invited to attend.

The Windward Region of the Hawai'i State PTSA is sponsoring the event.

TV forum hosts House hopefuls

Five candidates for the state House of Representatives whose opponents were not available will take part in a live TV forum tonight as part of the "Vote! 2002: Candidates Debate" series sponsored by 'Olelo Community Television.

The forum will air from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Oceanic Channel 54 and Oceanic Digital Control.

Participating will be five Republican candidates: Lynn Finnegan, District 32 (Aliamanu, Airport); Joe Gomes, District 51 (Waimanalo, Lanikai); Mindy Jaffee, District 21 (Kapahulu, Diamond Head); Guy Ontai, District 37 (Mililani, Waipi'o); and David Pendleton, District 49 (Kane'ohe, Enchanted Lake).
