Tractor driver hurt after overturn

Kunia Road near the entrance to Schofield's Lyman Gate was closed to Waipahu-bound traffic out of Wahiawa for several hours today after a tractor-semitrailor hauling concrete blocks overturned.

The driver of the RHS Lee Inc. truck was transported by helicopter to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition after the 8:19 a.m. incident. The roadway was expected to be closed at least until noon, police said. Traffic to Wahiawa on Kunia Road was not affected.

Man charged with firearms offense

Police yesterday charged a 36-year-old Wai'anae man with being in possession of a firearm when he fled from police on May 26, 2001, after a traffic stop.

William Soares is being held in lieu of $15,000 bail for the firearms offense and three outstanding warrants.

Identity released for Hanauma victim

The medical examiner's office today identified the 72-year-old man from Hokkaido, Japan, who died at Straub Clinic & Hospital yesterday after being pulled unconscious from Hanauma Bay as Yasuji Nomura.

Lifeguards found Nomura's body floating about 20 yards offshore at 12:05 p.m. Emergency personnel tried to resuscitate him. He was pronounced deadat 1:13 p.m.
