UH kicks off research series

Advertiser Staff and News Services

University Connections will kick off a monthly lunch-hour speaker series — Meet the Researchers — featuring UH research projects with commercial potential.

The series — which begins tomorrow, and each month will feature an investor, business executive or industry scientist familiar with the research area and its applications — is geared toward the business community and anyone looking to deepen their knowledge about how UH research can stimulate economic development in Hawai'i.

This week, Dr. Song Choi of UH's Department of Mechanical Engineering will talk about his team's development of a Semi-Autonomous Underwater Robot for deep ocean repair, reconnaissance and intervention missions. Todd Peltzer from Navatek Ltd. will comment on some of the potential commercialization opportunities for this technology.

Meet the Researchers will be a free, informal, brown-bag event. Tomorrow's program is from noon to 1 p.m., in Room 20-B, Ali'i Place, 1099 Alakea St. To register, e-mail connects@hawaii.edu or call 547-5644.
