WENDA ARAKI and LINDA FERNANDEZ have been promoted to assistant vice president at First Insurance Co. Araki has been with the company for 22 years, and her responsibilities include customer service, auxiliary and underwriting support. Fernandez is responsible for agency management, and has served First Insurance for more than 10 years.

• Eighteen people have been selected to serve on the 2002 Board of Examiners for the Hawaii State Award of Excellence, managed by The Chamber of Commerce of Hawai'i's Service Excellence Center. The volunteers come from Hawai'i business, government, military, education and community organizations. The board is responsible for reviewing organizations against the criteria for performance excellence.

RYAN COVERT has been named director of restaurants at Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki Hotel. He will manage all operations at Canoes at The Ilikai Restaurant, room service, Paddles Bar, and the Paddles Coffee Bar.

LARRY CUNDIFF and JAN D. GOESSING have been named to the board of directors of Friends of Hawaii Charities. Cundiff is the retired region vice president of Weyerhaeuser Co. and general manager of Weyerhaeuser Hawaii. Goessing is the general manager of Kahala Mandarin Oriental.

TERRI FUJII has been admitted to the partnership of Ernst & Young. Fujii is based in the firm's Honolulu office. A member of Ernst & Young's assurance and advisory business services practice, she has more than 16 years of experience with the firm.

CHARIS FUJIMOTO and MARLO SHIRAISHI have been promoted to government account managers at Xerox Hawaii. Fujimoto and Shiraishi previously served as marketing representatives for the company. In their new positions, they will be responsible for introducing equipment and services to state and city government offices. Both joined Xerox Hawaii in 2000.

RICHARD A. KERSENBROCK JR. has been named president of First American Title Insurance Co.'s majority-owned Hawai'i subsidiary, First American Title Co. Inc. He will also serve as state manager, overseeing all of First American's title operations in Hawai'i. Kersenbrock joined the company in 1998.

SUSAN M. NIXON has been named store manager at the new Starbucks Waimea, the 30th coffeehouse in Hawai'i opened by Coffee Partners Hawaii, an authorized licensee of Starbucks Coffee International. Nixon will also continue to manage the Starbucks at Kings' Shops at Waikoloa. She joined Coffee Partners Hawaii in 1999.

• The Orchid at Mauna Lani has named LYNDA C. COROTAN as human resources manager. She is responsible for the recruitment of all new associates and for all internal transfers. Corotan also oversees communication efforts of the hotel internally and externally. She brings more than seven years of hospitality experience to The Orchid.

PAIGE CABACUNGAN has been named account director at The Orchid. She is responsible for corporate meetings and incentives for the western region of the United States except California. Cabacungan brings more than 12 years of hotel operations and sales to the hotel.
