Advertiser Staff
One of the 10 teenage girls who escaped from the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility in Kailua Saturday was apprehended yesterday, police said. The other nine remained at large last night.
Police said the girl was caught at 4:52 p.m. in the area of Pahia Road and Kamehameha Highway. Her age was not available. Officials have not released the names of any of the girls, all between the ages 14 to 17, because they are minors.
Officials said the girls escaped at 12:33 p.m. Saturday after overpowering two guards and stealing an unmarked white 1998 Ford Windstar van with license number GXT 744.
All of the girls were wearing blue prison uniforms.
