Ruivivar welcomes new arrival

CLOSE WATCH: It's a boy for "Third Watch" actor Anthony Ruivivar and actress wife Yvonne Jung; Kainoa Ruivivar was born Wednesday, weighing 8 pounds, 1 ounce. Ruivivar was on the set of the NBC TV show, in production for the fall season, when his beeper went off. The new mom was having her nails done when she knew it was The Moment. ...

Ruivivar suddenly is highly visible. His four-year-old film, "Swimming," directed by Robert J. Siegel and featuring Lauren Ambrose of "Six Feet Under," is showing at The Art House at Restaurant Row ... and "Third Watch" is now part of A&E's roster of reruns. ...

When Dalton Tanonaka was in New York recently, he wanted to pay his respects to the victims of 9/11 by offering lei and floral sprays at Ground Zero. To shy away from political motives, the Republican lieutenant governor candidate reached the aforementioned Ruivivar to accompany him on the mission.

"It was his first time at Ground Zero, too," said Tanonaka, who realized a bona fide star was in his midst. "Because of 'Third Watch,' the police immediately recognized Anthony and we got a special tour to place the flowers in the pit." It was Port Authority folks who allowed the two locals to pay their respects, and Tanonaka and Ruivivar received commemorative patches for their efforts.

Tanonaka visited Anthony's dad, Society of Seven leader Tony Ruivivar, to present the patch to him at the Outrigger Waikiki. "It was highly emotional — he was tearing," said Tanonaka of the elder

Ruivivar, who hopes to see his grandson for the first time in the month ahead. SOS opens Oct. 11 at the Aladdin in Las Vegas, their home away from home. ...

Star 101.9's Maleko McDonald, the afternoon drive guy, got married to Courtney McDonell, in Las Vegas recently and while on his honeymoom, he tried his luck on the TV game show, "The Price Is Right." On the "Showcase Showdown," he got lucky, winning $1,000 in cash. He also won a bedroom set, and a new Pontiac Probe. That segment airs on KGMB-9 in October. ...

THE LOCAL ANGLE: Singer Lehua Kalima Heine gave birth to Kalamakuikeao Lauloa Heine Aug. 26 at Kaiser Hospital; she's a member of Na Leo Pilimehana; he's the grandson of kumu hula/dancer Leina'ala Kalama Heine. He weighed 9 pounds, 11 ounces and was 22 1/2 inches long. ...
