Shareholders of dissolving Hilo-based C. Brewer & Co. Ltd. have reached an agreement to sell the assets of HT&T's Big Island trucking division to a group of Big Island investors.
A sale is anticipated to close after Oct. 31, affecting about 50 employees of the hauling, freight forwarding and repair business in Hilo, Kona and Kawaihae, according to Stephen Knox, president of BEI LLC, a company owned by C. Brewer shareholders selling off C. Brewer assets.
Knox said the buyer will offer employment to most of the workers.
Terms of the expected sale to TRI-K Investments LLC were not disclosed. Other HT&T businesses on the Big Island, including Hilo Coast Power Co. and a stevedoring operation, are not part of the deal but eventually are expected to be sold.
