Match play tourney kicks off next week

Qualifying for the Aloha Section PGA Spalding Match Play Championship will be Monday at Leilehua Golf Course.
Kevin Hayashi will open defense of his title Tuesday in the first round. Larry Stubblefield will defend his senior title.
The tournament, which ends with a 36-hole final Thursday, offers a $12,000 purse. Seniors start at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, with the Championship Flight going off at 8:10.
The second round begins at noon.
Wednesday's semifinals and Thursday's finals start at 7 a.m.
There are 22 players in the Championship Flight, including Craig Sasada (Kapalua Plantation), Beau Yokomoto (Pearl), Kevin Carll (Pearl), Brian Sasada (Makena), Andrew Feldmann (Oahu CC) and Ronald Castillo (Hapuna).
Seniors include Ron Castillo (Golf Action Academy), Mike Iyoki (U.S. Army Golf Courses) Steve Hookano (Francis H. I'i Brown), Dennis Rose (Turtle Bay), Rodney Acia (Hilo Muni) and Ron Kia'aina (Kiahuna).
Lee drops into tie at Gateway event
After opening with a career-low 60, Hawai'i's Regan Lee shot a third-round 72 yesterday and dropped into a tie for ninth at The Gateway Tour's LG Electronics Classic.
The tour is playing at We-Ko-Pa and Talking Stick Golf Clubs, near Phoenix. The final round is today.
At 11-under-par 203, Lee is eight behind leader David Howser.
Monday at Talking Stick, Lee put together nine birdies, an eagle and a bogey to shoot 10-under 60. He followed with a 71 Tuesday to fall from first to third.
Wailea Golf Club receives honor
Golf for Women magazine has selected the Wailea Golf Club as one of its 25 Top Shops, an annual award recognizing the best shops for women.
Wailea Golf Club was the only Hawai'i facility, and one of only five resort shops nationally, to make it to this year's list, which will be published in Golf for Women's September/October 2002 issue.
This is the second time Wailea has received this award.
Aloha Section PGA Classic set
The 26th annual Aloha Section PGA Classic, the primary fund-raiser for the organization, will be Oct. 18, at Hawai'i Prince Golf Club.
The tournament supports junior golf, the Hawai'i State Open, Hawai'i Golf Hall of Fame, educational seminars and other golf-related activities.
Individuals and companies can help the event in several ways, ranging from tournament entry ($200 per person) to prize donations, providing Demo Days and Platinum Sponsorship ($1,300).
Pre-event activities begin at 9 a.m. The tournament has an 11 a.m. shotgun start. Teams are five amateurs and one professional.

Scout marathon at Makaha Valley
The Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America will have its eighth annual 101 Holes for Scouting benefit Oct. 11 at Makaha Valley Country Club. The field is open to a limited number of two-player teams. There will also be 24 individual golfers.
The goal is to raise $50,000. Players solicit pledges per hole from corporations and individuals.
Golfers tee off at day break. The record to beat is 6 hours, 25 minutes, set last year.
