Retailer salutes Ambassador of Aloha

Macy's is rolling out a Duke Kahanamoku stamp aloha shirt.

In another celebration of the new U.S. postage stamp honoring Duke Kahanamoku, Macy's will introduce a silk aloha shirt designed and manufactured by Kahala. The design features a portrait of the Ambassador of Aloha on the back, flanked by surfboards. The shirts cost $125.

The Duke Kahanamoku shirt will be available shortly in Macy's at Ala Moana, Pearlridge, Kahala Mall, Waikiki, Makalapua (Kona) and Ka'ahumanu (Kahului).


Buddhist art on display

Three artists from Japan have been visiting the Honolulu Academy of Arts this week to demonstrate Buddhist arts and crafts techniques. The events coincide with the opening of "Sacred Treasures of Mount Koya: the Art of Japanese Shingon Buddhism," featuring paintings, sculptures, textiles and prints from the Heian to the Showa period s at the academy through Nov. 10.

Artists Yuboku Mukoyoshi, Kaboku Nakamura and Hogan Fujiwara will be on hand from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:30-3 p.m. today and tomorrow, and 1:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday at the academy galleries and courtyard.

Sunday, a Family Festival Day, admission is free and includes traditional music, dancing, keiki art activities and a free gallery guide booklet to direct children to works of art in the exhibition. Information: 532-8700.
