Police seek clues in party stabbing

Police are still interviewing witnesses and seeking information in the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man during an Aug. 18 brawl at Laniakea beach in Hale'iwa. There have been no arrests in the case.

Eteuati "Eddie" Salevao of Wahiawa, who was stabbed in the chest, was among 30 to 50 uninvited guests at a birthday party for two people at a house fronting Laniakea beach, police said. Approximately 80 to 100 people were at the party and there were several small skirmishes between the guests and crashers leading up to the brawl.

A second stabbing victim, who had been taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition, was recently released from the hospital, police said.

Anyone with information about the stabbings is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.

Three more teen escapees caught

Police yesterday arrested three more girls who escaped Saturday from the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility in Kailua.

Police acting on an anonymous tip arrested two girls, ages 16 and 17, at 8:20 a.m. at a Newa Street residence in Makakilo. Another tip led to the arrest of a 15-year-old girl at 3:15 p.m. near a Halekauwila Street address yesterday.

With the arrests, five of the 10 escapees remain at large.

The girls escaped around noon Saturday by overpowering two unarmed security guards at the facility and fleeing in a state van, according to authorities. Police later found the vehicle on Keolu Drive in Kailua.

Anyone with information about the five still at large may call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300, or *CRIME on a cellular phone.
