Key Senate votes:
1. Guns for pilots
The Senate voted 87-6 to allow pilots to carry firearms in the cockpit. The vote was on an amendment to a bill that would create a new Department of Homeland Security. A "yea" vote signified approval of the amendment.
Hawaii votes: Daniel Akaka (D) DID NOT VOTE; Dan Inouye (D) YEA
