Tube Notes

"Report From Ground Zero," 8 p.m., ABC. Trapped amid the rubble of the World Trade Center, rescue workers called for help. Their message: We're in Stairwell B of the tower. Come get us. On the outside, people were perplexed: What tower? Which stairwell? These men had survived on the fourth floor while 106 floors crumbled above them. It was tough to find them, but they emerged almost unscratched. That provides an upbeat moment in what is mostly a dark and richly detailed portrait. Based on a book by former firefighter Dennis Smith, "Report" is at its best when introducing the people for whom firefighting is a tradition. These are tough, silent men who work to keep their emotions in control. That makes their stories all the more involving.

"Dateline," 8:30 p.m., NBC. The show expands to 90 minutes for Tom Brokaw's report on how Osama bin Laden built his terrorist activities.

"America Rebuilds," 10 p.m., PBS. This documentary looks at the effort to clean up the World Trade Center site and prepare it for its next use.
