University of Hawai'i left side hitter Kim Willoughby was named Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week yesterday.

Willoughby earned her fifth career player of the week honor. She had 73 kills in three matches at the Aston Imua Wahine Volleyball Challenge last weekend. The Rainbow Wahine (6-0) earned their second consecutive tournament championship.

The Wahine moved from fourth to third in the USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25, released yesterday.

The Wahine received four first-place votes.

Stanford (6-0) remained No. 1, and Southern California (6-0) was No. 2. Nebraska (4-1) fell from No. 2 to No. 4 and Long Beach State (6-0) was No. 5. Florida (5-1) was No. 6, followed by Northern Iowa (8-1), Utah (5-1), Ohio State (3-2) and Pepperdine (5-3).

Willoughby, a junior from Napoleonville, La., had 38 kills in a four-game win over Washington Saturday. Washington remained unranked in the latest poll.

The Rainbow Wahine play Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo Friday and Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.

BYUH freshman honored: For the second week in a row, a Brigham Young-Hawai'i freshman earned Pacific West Conference Player of the Week honors.

Chun Yi Lin, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Pingtune, Taiwan, led the No. 7 Seasiders (8-0) to five wins last week, including a 3-0 victory over No. 11 Western Washington at the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham, Wash.

Lin averaged 5.3 kills per game and posted a .548 hitting percentage as BYUH swept every team it played. She was named the tournament MVP of the Western Washington Invitational after leading the Seasiders in kills in all four matches.

Her .750 hitting percentage against Seattle Pacific tied for fourth best in school history, and her .722 hitting percentage against Cal State-Stanislaus tied for eighth best in the BYUH record book.

Last week, the PacWest honored BYUH outside hitter Yu Chuan Weng, an 18-year-old from Hsinchu, Taiwan.
